A dominating start on the mound from Lael Lockhart in the top of the first inning, followed by a leadoff home run from Parker Meadows in the home half, set the tone for Toledo as the Mud Hens blanked the Indianapolis Indians 8-0 on Sunday in front of more than 9,000 fans at Fifth Third Field. The Mud Hens (27-24) took five of the six games in the series from the Indians (27-22) and improved to 22-8 in their last 30 games.

Caleb Kelly and his St. John’s Jesuit track and field teammates put together an impressive performance on Friday. So did Madeline Zimmerman and the rest of Anthony Wayne’s girls squad. Kelly bolted to wins in each of his four events, while Zimmerman tallied three victories and a runner-up finish in leading their respective teams to titles at the OHSAA Division I district meet on Friday at Clay High School.

Sixth-seeded St. Francis de Sales dominated the first half, withstood a St. John’s Jesuit comeback, then finished strong to upend the No. 2-seed Titans 13-6 in an OHSAA Division II regional boys lacrosse match on Wednesday at St. John’s. The Knights (11-7) advanced to Tuesday’s regional semifinal against the winner of No. 4 Cuyahoga Falls Walsh Jesuit and No. 5 Medina Highland at 7 p.m. a location to be determined.

BOWLING GREEN — Bowling Green State University’s baseball team got a couple of reinforcements at just the right time, and that could be critical this week for the Mid-American Conference tournament. Sam Seidel, a first-team All-Mid-American Conference second baseball in 2024, and Brady Birchmeier, a key component to BGSU’s power at the plate, returned to the Falcons’ lineup on Friday against Northern Illinois after missing the previous month due to injury.
