Toledo continued its theme of wacky series openers at home on Tuesday night, but the Mud Hens found a way to continue their strong stretch. After the Mud Hens gave up the game-tying home run in the top of the ninth inning, Jahmai Jones was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the 10th to score Brewer Hicklen and give Toledo a 5-4 win over the Iowa Cubs at Fifth Third Field. The Mud Hens (16-18) earned their 11th victory in the past 13 games.

BOWLING GREEN — Kyle Hallock has had to make numerous adjustments to the lineup for his Bowling Green State University baseball team this season. But considering the recent third-round NFL draft pick by the Cleveland Browns is only 20 years old, has been playing tight end for just three years, and is going to a team that values the position, there’s a possibility that fans and the football world could see even more good things from BGSU’s earliest draft pick in 52 years.
Beucler, McElheny cruise to course records at Glass City Marathon

Conditions for the Mercy Health Glass City Marathon were impeccable on Sunday morning, and it showed in the record-breaking times from the top male and female runners. Adam Beucler, of Hudson, Ohio, set a course record after winning the race in 2:19.32, while Alyssa McElheny, of Belding, Mich., broke the women’s record after finishing in 2:35.37. It marked the second time in the last three years that the male and female course records were broken in the event. “It’s really special,” Beucler said.
