The organization responsible for the Detroit RiverWalk is asking a federal judge to give the former CFO who stole tens of millions of dollars from the organization the maximum possible sentence. The Detroit Riverfront Conservancy made the request in a victim impact statement to be filed with the court Monday ahead of sentencing in the embezzlement case of former executive William Smith, who pleaded guilty in November to charges of wire fraud and money laundering.

Stock prices for metro Detroit's publicly traded companies fell Thursday, erasing billions in paper value a day after President Donald Trump imposed sweeping tariffs on the United States’ global trading partners. All but three local public companies saw stock declines. The only gainers were DTE Energy Co. and CMS Energy Co., utilities that are a traditional "flight to safety" stock pick. The other was manufactured-home park operator Sun Communities Inc.
