    EVERETT — In the quick-flash span of two hours, a group of women makes short work of giving thousands of dollars to a local nonprofit. They’ve been doing this three times a year for nearly six years now. And on May 12, they’ll be doing it again at 6:30 p.m. at the Normanna Lodge, 2725 Oakes Ave., Everett. The grassroots effort is called 100+ Women Who Care About Snohomish County. The idea is 100 or more women give $100 to a charity selected by a group vote that night.

    SNOHOMISH — The school board last week approved increasing meal prices 25 cents across the board for next year. At the middle schools and high schools, a school lunch will cost $3.75 come Sept. 1; a breakfast, $2.25. At elementaries, $3.50 for lunch and $2 for breakfasts. Students who can get reduced and free lunch programs will continue to pay zero. It was to keep up with costs instead of having a higher jump later, the board was told. Snohomish Schools hasn’t increased meal prices in three years.

    MONROE — Police arrested a former Monroe High English teacher a second time Thursday, May 1 on new sexual assault allegations involving another student which began in late 2018 until her graduation in an unknown year. Last summer, county prosecutors filed probable cause charges against Giles Stanton of two felony charges of sexual misconduct with a minor. The charges said Stanton had intercourse with one of his students when she was underage.
