A Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office deputy was recorded punching and kicking a man in the head during a confrontation at a Harvey intersection Thursday evening, video that has been shared by the website TMZ shows. The department's Internal Affairs Division has opened an investigation into the use of force during the incident to determine whether any disciplinary action is warranted, said Capt. A report released Monday by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor revealed that scammers targeted the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office and tricked department employees into wiring more than $1.1 million into phony bank accounts. No one has been arrested in connection with the scheme, which appears to have occurred during the fiscal year that runs between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024. The department fell victim to a business email compromise scam.

A Metairie woman was jailed on charges of home invasion, aggravated battery and stalking after authorities say she targeted and attacked another woman who dated her boyfriend. Ahkeema Love, 31, was arrested Sunday following the assault, which was reported at the Kenner home of an unidentified woman, according to the Jefferson Parish District Attorney's Office. Love appeared in Jefferson Parish Magistrate Court Tuesday morning for a bail hearing.

A Jefferson Parish jury deliberated for about two hours before convicting a Metairie man charged with the beating death of another man he believed had been spreading explicit rumors about his girlfriend, authorities said. Winston Bartholomew, 62, was found guilty Wednesday of second-degree murder and obstruction of justice, court records said.
