Authorities have recovered the body of man in who died of an apparent drowning in a Kenner canal Friday afternoon, Kenner police said. The man's identity has not been released. Kenner Police Deputy Chief Mark McCormick said investigators do not suspect any foul play. Relatives of the man called police about 6 a.m. after he jumped into the canal on his own volition in the 3000 block of Phoeninx Street. Police officers searched the canal with no success.

A Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office deputy helping to execute a search warrant at a Marrero home shot and wounded a dog that attacked and bit another deputy on Friday morning, the Sheriff's Office said. The shooting was reported about 11:30 a.m. at a residence in the 5100 block of Mt. Rushmore Drive, said Sgt. Brandon Veal, a spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office. Deputies were there to serve a warrant in a narcotics investigation.

In the months leading up to her murder, prosecutors say 6-year-old Bella Fontenelle would tell anyone who would listen that her father's girlfriend, Bunnak "Hannah" Landon was "mean."Bella suffered from anxiety and hysterical crying fits when faced with spending time at her father's Harahan home. But Bella never complained of any physical abuse at Landon's hands, despite repeated talks with teachers, therapists and family, according to Jefferson Parish Assistant District Attorney Rachel Africk.

Trial is expected to begin Monday for Bunnak "Hannah" Landon, the Harahan woman accused of killing her boyfriend's 6-year-old daughter and leaving the child's body in a bucket on her biological mother's front yard. Landon, 45, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Bella Fontenelle. She's also charged with two counts of obstruction of justice for allegedly moving Bella's body and burying her cellphone to keep it from authorities, Jefferson Parish court records said.

The Jefferson Parish Coroner's Office formally filed charges against the man accused of drunkenly crashing into several vehicles on a Gretna street and killing the grandparents of a man who had died weeks earlier in the Bourbon Street attack. Stephan Juarez, 34, of Baton Rouge, pleaded not guilty April 15 to two counts of vehicular homicide, Jefferson Parish court records said. He is accused in the deaths of Hubert Gauthreaux Sr., 75, and Gauthreaux's wife, Victoria Gauthreaux, 72.
