The South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority is giving Whiting’s Pierogi Fest an extra helping of sponsorship dollars this year, but the gesture likely won’t smooth over bad feelings between the SSCVA and the City of Hammond. The SSCVA board at its Wednesday meeting voted 10-0 to give Pierogi Fest a $10,000 sponsorship after finding an extra $5,000 in its budget.

A Dyer couple has been charged with public indecency after getting caught fondling each other’s genitals in front of young children during a dance recital at Lake Central High School Saturday afternoon. School staff at around 4:30 p.m. June 14 alerted an officer working event security to the couple, who were sitting in the auditorium’s second level, according to court records.

Indivisible NWI organizers in Highland had much to be proud about during the No Kings protest at Indianapolis Boulevard and Ridge Road Saturday afternoon. With at least 700 people lining three of that intersection’s four corners in what had to be the largest protest that area has seen in years, Highland Police, while present, were able to stay largely in the background because protestors were more interested in waving their signs than causing calamity.

Gary Police have charged a Crown Point man with 13 felony counts — including racketeering — for an involved scheme of selling stolen vehicles at a Gary used car lot. Milan Milos Djuric, 24, was charged with one count of corrupt business influence, a Level 5 felony; eight counts of Level 6 felony fraud; three counts of Level 6 felony forgery, and one count of Level 6 felony auto theft.
