Enoch Burke said students at the school he was suspended from were "waving from classrooms" and supporting him as he turned up to his old workplace again on Monday morning. The schoolteacher has been sent to prison three times already and could be in for another stint as he said he will continue to stand outside Wilson's Hospital School. At 9.15am on Monday, Mr Burke arrived at the school as students were welcomed back after the Christmas break.

Veteran gangster ‘Jaws’ Byrne has been buried with his son who was gunned down in Dublin ’s Regency Hotel. Byrne (76) was buried this afternoon in a plot in Mount Jerome Cemetery in Harolds Cross - where his son David, who was killed in a ruthless gangland hit in February 2016, was also laid to rest. It comes after a crowd of around 200 people attended the funeral of the Byrne patriarch at St Catherine’s Church in Dublin’s Meath Street earlier.

Armed gardai arrested a man for alleged threats to a woman, after he barricaded himself into a property in Rathmines in Dublin. Gardai called to an address on the Rathmines Road Lower earlier this morning in an effort to arrest a man on suspicion of making threats to his former partner. However the man barricaded himself into the property and refused to cooperate with Gardai at the scene - causing a standoff that lasted several hours.

Tears are flowing as family and friends have gathered to pay their final respects to murder victim Josephine Ray. Her grandson Daniel Ray O’Brien discovered the 89-year-old’s body in the bedroom of her home in St Joseph’s Park in Nenagh, Co Tipperary, on Sunday. She had been strangled and had suffered facial injuries. As her devastated family gathered at her wake on Thursday, Daniel revealed gardai were called on Saturday night following a violent incident.
