Strong thunderstorms blew through Southwestern Ohio on Tuesday afternoon, bringing heavy rains and strong winds. The National Weather Service says multiple reports of downed trees and power lines were reported across Southwestern Ohio as winds gusted over 60 mph. The Dayton International Airport reported a gust of 68 mph at 1:40 p.m. Tuesday. Large trees and limbs were blown down near West Carrollton, Brookville, Springboro, West Alexandria, South Vienna, Carlisle and Germantown.

Ohio’s tornado count for this year is up to 16. The National Weather Service confirms that a weak tornado briefly touched down in the evening April 25, two miles north of Greenville in Darke County. The storm hit just after 7:30 p.m. Friday evening and damaged a structure on Greenville-Celina Road, just north of Children's Home Bradford Road. Security cameras showed circulating winds at the property, which sustained minor damage. The tornado was rated an EF0 with maximum winds estimated at 65 MPH.

As tributes for Pope Francis come in from around the world in light of his death, the Archdiocese of Cincinnati is also honoring the pope. Most Rev. Robert Casey, Archbishop of Cincinnati, released a statement this morning, hoping that Francis, “will receive the reward of a life poured out in selfless service and love for God’s people and all creation.”The archdiocese encompasses almost half a million Catholics living in the 19 counties of western and southwestern Ohio, including the Dayton area.
