What’s happening: City officials celebrated the opening of eight “Certified Tech Hubs” in several Detroit neighborhoods earlier this month, a result of city-led efforts to bridge the digital divide and connect more underserved Detroiters to high-speed internet. They call it the Friendly City. When Hazel Park commissioned a redesign of the city logo that would debut at the tail end of 2020, the city’s official slogan “The Friendly City” was placed in a more prominent position as compared to the logo that preceded it. Where it was almost a part of the artwork itself beforehand, this new logo proudly declared how the city preferred to present itself by putting its tagline front and center.

What’s happening: A Fowlerville coffee shop was recently selected as an extension campus for Michigan Career and Technical Institute (MCTI), the state agency that provides career development training for Michiganders with disabilities. The nonprofit cafe and coffee shop Torch 180 was selected alongside Kalamazoo’s Northside Association for Community Development as two new extension campuses for MCTI earlier this month.
