The groundbreaking 2022 Tony Award winning musical "A Strange Loop" has its Virginia premiere in Richmond, running from June 20th through August 9th. The show is being produced by the Richmond Triangle Players in collaboration with the Firehouse Theatre, supported by a grant from the Altria Giving Together program. The show opens for previews Performances are at RTP's Robert B. Moss Theatre in Scotts Addition Thursday through Saturday evenings at 8pm, with Sunday matinees at 4pm.

The Richmond Symphony takes you out to the ballpark with "Play Ball!" this Saturday afternoon, May 31st at 3pm in the Carpenter Theatre. The concert is perfect for anyone who enjoys baseball and you can even catch a game after the concert. The symphony has partnered with the Richmond Flying Squirrels for this project.

You can catch some local wind band music this weekend in the Altria Theater. "An Evening with the Richmond Pops" will take place Sunday evening, June 1st at 6:30 P.M., with VPM's John Porter serving as Master of Ceremonies. The performance will feature favorites from the legendary film composer John Williams and the band's traditional Memorial Day musical tribute to the American Armed Forces. Guest soloists include vocalists Emma Potts and Pablo Talamante, and trumpeter David Moore.

The Virginia Arts Festival runs through June 23rd, with most performances down in Hampton Roads and a few in Williamsburg. There are a variety of chamber music offerings taking place over the next few weeks. I caught up with pianist Olga Kern, who has been the Director of Chamber Music for the festival since 2019. Johann Sebastian Bach's St. John Passion is a cornerstone of the choral and sacred music repertoire. You can hear it performed by the Central Virginia Masterworks Chorale in their season finale this coming weekend. Artistic Director Ryan Tibbetts stopped by our VPM studios to discuss the piece. Performances are Friday evening, May 16th at 7pm at Grace Baptist Church in Richmond and Sunday afternoon, May 18th at 3pm at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church in Ashland.
