SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - As we help you prepare for the 2025 Hurricane Season, we have a story of a woman and her family that nearly died in the storm surge of Hurricane Helene. Kim and Joe Denais were packed up and almost ready to evacuate their Siesta Key home when a early push of storm surge flooded their house in neck-deep water. Only by the grace of a neighbor with experience in deep water, and a random piece of Styrofoam floating by, did they survive the storm. Click and watch their story.

Scattered thunderstorms are possible every day for the coming week, at least into Thursday. Winds Sunday are variable, Northeast to Southwest. Rip currents risk is low Sunday. SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Be prepared for rain at the Markets Saturday. We have another cold front dropping south across Florida Saturday. Widespread showers and thunderstorms will occur with the front, mainly through the morning. Lightning is most likely this morning. By mid-afternoon skies will be clearing. There is a Marginal risk of a severe thunderstorm, mainly for inland areas. The main risk is a 5% chance of damaging thunderstorm winds.
