If a store clerk hesitates before accepting your $20, $50 or $100 bill, don’t be offended. Counterfeit currency is a growing concern for police forces in Ontario and across the country, including recent investigations by Durham police in Ajax and Scugog. In one incident on April 2 at a Best Buy in Ajax, a man allegedly attempted to pay with counterfeit $20 bills. During the transaction, an employee noticed the unusual texture of the bills and that the serial numbers on the bills were identical.

The Ontario government plans to require public school boards to implement school resource officer programs in areas where they are offered by local police services, beginning in the 2025-26 school year. The proposal is part of the Supporting Children and Students Act, introduced May 29, which the Ministry of Education says aims to strengthen government oversight, accountability and transparency in public school boards, post-secondary education and children’s aid societies.

After the City of Toronto euthanized a mated pair of coyotes in the Fort York and Liberty Village area, debate has focused on non-lethal alternatives to help the much-maligned canine species coexist with human neighbours. On the r/Toronto subreddit on reddit.com, commenters mostly agree that something needed to be done about the coyotes after several attacks on people and pets. But some have also asked why coyotes can’t be relocated to rural areas.
