Truck crash snarls 95 work zone traffic

A crash involving a tractor trailer on I-95 northbound in the Route 896 work zone jammed traffic up in the Newark area for hours on Thursday, May 8, 2025. The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. when the truck ran off the left side of the highway and struck the guardrail, taking out hundreds of feet of metal. The collision also punctured one of the truck's saddle fuel tanks, creating a spill into the grass median.
Arrest made for March shooting in Wilmington

Wilmington Police have announced an arrest in connection to a March shooting. The incident happened on the afternoon of March 22, 2025, in the 1300 block of Banning Street. A 17-year old was shot and taken to the hospital in stable condition. Detectives identified 19-year old Semaj Clark as a suspect and he was arrested Tuesday in the 100 block of Cedar Street.
UD golfers cool in Kohler

University of Delaware golfers swept the men's and women's individual honors at the windswept PGA WORKS Collegiate Championship held this week on The Straits courses in Kohler, Wisconsin. Senior Egor Zubov (67-67-76—210) held on in windy conditions for a wire to wire win on the men's side, while freshman Hyunji Kim drained a clutch 20-foot birdie on the 18th hole to force a playoff which she then won on the first playoff hole.
Motorcyclist seriously hurt in Hockessin crash

A 20-year-old man was hospitalized in serious condition Wednesday evening after being injured while operating a motorcycle. New Castle County Paramedics and members of the Hockessin Fire Company arrived to the intersection of Limestone Road and Mendenhall Road at about 5:45 p.m. A motorcycle and a sedan collided. The man was being treated for a head injury and possible internal injuries. Delaware State Police are investigating the cause of the collision.

DUI stops lead to assault charges

Newark Police said a pair of DUI arrests on Saturday, May 3, 2025, also led to assault charges against the drivers. Around 4 a.m. Newark officers pulled over a vehicle in the area of West Chesnut Hill Road for committing multiple violations. 23-year old Jacob Rahme failed a field sobriety test but allegedly became combative when officers tried to arrest him. Two officers suffered minor injuries.
Charter a winner in national STEM competition

For the third year in a row, a Delaware school has captured top honors in a national STEM competition. A team of students from Charter School of Wilmington was one of the national winners in the 15th annual Samsung Solve for Tomorrow competition. The students developed the Akqua-Gel hydrogel bandage, an AI-powered smart bandage that can monitor wound healing in real time. Sensors in the bandage are linked to a mobile app that tracks wound markers providing data to the patient and physician.
