It’s a comment that immediately stuck after it was read, that being something of a rarity when life is all about information-overload doom-scrolling: “I’ve never understood the attraction to Nick Cave and his music ... he’s like some weird looking preacher. But, that’s just me.”The comment was made on a friend’s Facebook post this morning celebrating Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds’ flat-out transcendent showing at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre last night.

It’s the one holiday where the problem of what gift to give solves itself—especially if the person who raised you proudly identifies as what the internet likes to call a “Wine Mom”. Admittedly, at first blush, that moniker can seem like not only a vaguely snarky put down, but also outrageously sexist. After all, it’s not like anyone refers to a 24-cans-a-day father as a Beer Dad.

Call it a definitive statement on the concept of elbows up. The 33rd edition of the Honda Celebration of Light will return to Vancouver this summer with a twist that highlights the idea of national pride. Forget doing battle against the international likes of China, Mexico, Italy, and...ummm...that country to the immediate south that is currently persona non grata this side of the border.

Holy shit--ever felt like just encountered your spirit animal? Actually, first a qualifier. To completely align oneself with Spank Williams as seen in “GOD-D@MNIT” is probably not the best life decision for those with ambitions, like one day landing that long-coveted job at the poultry-processing plant. Or re-connecting with family members who haven’t talked to you since the “Christmas incident”. Or finally getting on a first-name basis with your parole officer.

As easy as it would be to look back at what might have been, Vancouver Mural Festival (VMF) co-founder Adrian Sinclair is more interested in looking ahead. And as of late, he’s found himself admiring the City of Victoria, praising the provincial capital of British Columbia for taking truly progressive steps for not only protecting but also nurturing the arts. With better support from the city, he wonders whether VMF might have endured.

In case you have an hour or so to kill.....a long-form dissection of two approaches to arts funding......... Vancouver Mural Festival founder wonders if there’s a better way when it comes to the city's arts funding https://t.co/WYLz2WklDG via @georgiastraight
If only there was a play-by-play guy to let us know who has the puck…we wouldn’t need name bars covering up the puck, the goal crease, the players….Luckily it’s not so monumentally distracting that you end up watching the name bars instead of the play. @espn @NHL #NHLPlayoffs https://t.co/YtzNWe81ke
If you haven't already voted, please remember that @MarkJCarney @theJagmeetSingh and @ElizabethMay all did the hip flip with @nardwuar @PierrePoilievre did not. You know what to do Canada, and you've got this.
