By Miranda Chant Area residents can once again enjoy a bonfire in the backyard. London, Middlesex County, and Elgin County have all ended temporary outdoor burn bans. The restrictions had been in place since June 5 due to a lack of wet weather that had made conditions extremely dry. In the city and Middlesex, large outdoor fires were prohibited but small recreational fires were still allowed.

By Miranda Chant Provincial police seized cocaine, fentanyl, and a rifle during a raid at a Delhi home early Wednesday. Officers with the Haldimand and Norfolk street crime unit, emergency response team, and the tactics and rescue unit searched a home on Bell street just before 4 a.m. Inside they found an undisclosed quantity of the two illicit drugs along with a rifle, a replica handgun, ammunition, other prohibited weapons and drug paraphernalia.

By Miranda Chant An 18-year-old London man has been charged after a security guard was threatened with a knife at an east-end business. According to London police, a man walked into the unnamed business in the area of Clarke Road and Dundas Street East around 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday. When he was approached by a security officer, the man allegedly pulled out a knife and made threats. He then took off from the store on foot.
Driver who ran after 401 crash charged with impaired

By Miranda Chant Provincial police believe impaired driving was a factor in a crash that caused slowdowns on Highway 401 during the Thursday morning commute. Two vehicles collided in the eastbound lanes of the highway at Elgin Road (Highway 73) around 5:30 a.m.One of the drivers of the involved vehicles took off running, Middlesex OPP said. That individual was arrested with the help of a person who was passing by at the time.
High bacteria levels making Port Stanley Little Beach unsafe for swimming

By Miranda Chant Anyone whose weekend plans include a dip in the waters of Port Stanley’s Little Beach will want to make other arrangements. Routine weekly water quality testing conducted by Southwestern Public Health has found the beach is unsafe for swimming because of high levels of E.coli. bacteria. Signs warning people swimming is not recommended at the location at 181 Main St. have been posted and will remain in place until future testing shows bacteria levels have subsided.

The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms announced the Crown dropped the charges against Henry Hildebrant because there was not enough evidence to prove the Church of God pastor was in attendance at the protest.

The first incident happened around 7:40 p.m. Friday as a man and a family member were walking along a trail in the area of Baseline Road West and Emery Street. A man came up behind the pair and stabbed the other man multiple times before running from the area.
