SALEM, Va. ( WFXR) - Eddie Kaufman, a sophomore at Roanoke College, was living out his dream on the baseball diamond until life threw him a curveball he never saw coming. "Eddie was always not just healthy as a kid growing up, I would say he was thriving. So, when Eddie became sick it was a real shock," said Eddie's father Brian Kaufman. Last Fall on October 4 th, Eddie was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia, a fast-growing form of cancer that starts in the blood and bone marrow.

LYNCHBURG, Va. ( WFXR) - This years recipients of the Hilltopper Alumni Football Scholarship are Roy Ricks and Kaden Patrick. Both Ricks and Patrick received $5,000, distributed over four years, to help transition into their college student-athlete journey. Ricks plans to attend Bluefield College in the upcoming fall, while Patrick is considering going to the Apprentice school for a work-force job and play football. Roy Ricks says, "I'm excited.
