It’s been a busy few months, with a second-half ’24 wave of mergers and acquisitions that have stunned the industry. I’m talking about Casey's summertime pickup of CEFCO and Alimentation Couche-Tard’s picking of Giant Eagle's terrific GetGo chain. Both deals involved portfolios in excess of 200 stores and more importantly, operations that were distinctive, especially in GetGo’s case.

Marketing executive Abigail Cerra is moving on from a successful tenure at a leading convenience-store company to bring her loyalty experience to another retailer. Effective April 1, Cerra—who currently serves as senior manager of innovation and brand marketing at Charleston, South Carolina-based Refuel Operating Co. LLC—will take up the mantle of loyalty marketing manager at Chestnut Market, the c-store brand of CPD Energy Corp., New Paltz, New York.

One of the best retail executives I know is looking for his next challenge. Brad Chivington, senior vice president of High’s of Baltimore, confirmed that he is no longer with the convenience-store chain as of March 4. For nearly seven years, Chivington had transformed the retail brand moored on its dairy and ice cream legacy, into one of the best mid-size c-store chains in the channel.

More than 60 years and four generations of Krause ownership later, the Kum & Go brand will disappear by 2025, a half-dozen sources shared with CSP Daily News. Months after family-run Maverik closed on the venerable Iowa-based chain with roughly 400 stores, the Utah retailer famous for its Adventure’s First Stop theme and sporty exterior design has chosen to retire the Kum & Go brand.

When the news broke that 7-Eleven Inc. had acquired more than 200 stores from Sunoco LP, something seemed to be missing. This was not just a case of Sunoco operating 204 random retail sites. Indeed, a deeper probe suggested this was a deal originally intended to happen more than a half-dozen years ago.
