Wanda III, the century-old vessel well known to the Muskoka region, has undergone extensive transformation over the past few years, and soon, it will take to the Muskoka waterways once again. The work to convert the 94-foot-long vessel from steam to electric began six years ago and involved a significant undertaking. "Vessels converting to electric are becoming more and more popular. We think we're one of the oldest vessels in the world to convert to electric power.

On Tuesday, provincial police say officers recovered motorcycles, motorcycle equipment and a trailer that was allegedly stolen from a residence in Caledon. A 40-year-old from Caledon has been charged with theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. The accused is scheduled to appear in court on September 26 to answer the charges.

The Inter-Township Fire Department says a dog has been rescued after falling down a 25-foot well on Monday. Volunteer firefighters say they received a call shortly after 6 p.m. with reports of a dog at the bottom of a well at Spirit Valley Trail in Bognor. The owners say their dog, Nala, leapt over the fence surrounding the well, leaving them in shock and concern.

Friends of the Muskoka Watershed held an event at Camp Big Canoe in Bracebridge for community members to learn about ash research. The non-profit organization and Trent University teamed up to research calcium and ash additions to the forest. "Right now, wood ash goes to landfill - it's classified as a hazardous material, which is a real waste. It's got lots of nutrients that these trees and soils need.

The Playfair tall ship made its way to Midland Ont., earlier this week before heading to Collingwood, where youth crew members learned the ropes as part of the Brigs Youth Sail Training program. Playfair was built in 1973 in Kingston, and officials said it was explicitly built as a training ship designed for youth. Brigs Youth Sail Training owns and operates the tall ship Playfair. Brigs Youth Sail Training in Midland Ont., on August 6, 2024.
