The West Contra Costa Unified School District board on Wednesday, in an effort to reduce its budget deficit, saved about eight staff positions while cutting about 169 others, a move that the district says could jeopardize services for vulnerable students. Many in the West Contra Costa Unified School District community say they want their next superintendent to be a leader who is accountable, transparent, accessible, innovative, and understands diverse communities. “The No. 1 priority we should be looking for in the next superintendent should be someone rooted in the community … and (who) can take our weaknesses and turn them into strengths,” said WCCUSD parent Nivette Moore.
