Polymyalgia rheumatica (PMR) is characterised by stiffness and pain in the shoulders, hips, and neck and presents most commonly in the eighth decade. It can coexist with giant cell arteritis and the two diseases may share some pathophysiological mechanisms.

The acronym SAPHO (ORPHA: 793), which stands for synovitis, acne, pustulosis, hyperostosis and osteitis, was introduced into the medical literature in 1987 by the French Society of Rheumatology based on a national survey of 85 cases characterized by anterior thoracic and peripheral hyperostosis associated with palmoplantar pustulosis (PPP) and severe acne [1, 2].

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic rheumatic disease that usually appears in patients with skin psoriasis, making it a model for detection of joint disease in the pre-clinical phases in a setting where therapy for cutaneous disease may ameliorate or prevent arthritis development. Such PsA prevention appears credible due to the increasingly recognized closely shared immunopathology between the skin and joints, especially the entheses.

SummaryAnti-MDA5 (Melanoma differentiation-associated protein-5) positive dermatomyositis (MDA5+-DM) is characterised by rapidly progressive interstitial lung disease (ILD) and high mortality. MDA5 is an RNA sensor and a key pattern recognition receptor for the SARS-CoV-2 virus. This is a retrospective observational study of a surge in MDA5 autoimmunity, as determined using a 15 muscle-specific autoantibodies (MSAs) panel, between Janurary 2018 and December 2022 in Yorkshire, UK.

Dear Editor, A recent study (TOC STOP) of 336 patients with GCA living in England, who had completed a course of tocilizumab, showed that up to one-third relapsed within one year of stopping, and up to half relapsed within two years [1]. The National Health Service in England doesn’t currently allow repeat treatment with tocilizumab for GCA patients who relapse [2].

Existing guidelines for psoriatic arthritis (PsA) cover many aspects of management. Some gaps remain relating to routine practice application. An expert group aimed to enhance current guidance and develop recommendations for clinical practice that are complementary to existing guidelines. A steering committee comprising experienced, research-active clinicians in rheumatology, dermatology and primary care agreed on themes and relevant questions.
