The surge in the polls is normally expected "over four or five election cycles", an expert said. Labor may have retained the Western Sydney seats of Blaxland and Watson with comfortable margins, but a closer look at the results reveals the party has lost some support.

NSW Police has launched a "major" investigation into a violent online threat targeting a newly opened mosque in south-western Sydney. The Australian Islamic House — Masjid Al-Bayt Al-Islami mosque at Edmondson Park reported the threat to police, which was made on the mosque's official Instagram page. The threat included the comment, "I'm going to christ church 2.0 this joint", in an apparent reference to the 2019 mass shootings of a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand, which claimed 51 lives.

When Palestinian pharmacist Berta Frangieh escaped the war in Gaza and landed in Australia five months ago, she felt like she got a new lease on life. "Australia is beautiful and I'm happy here," the 25-year-old said. But soon after settling in Sydney, Ms Frangieh realised her new life is on hold. "I am a pharmacist, I used to work in a pharmaceutical company, but since arriving in Australia, I can't work or study because I'm still on a visitor visa," Ms Frangieh said.
