Police are investigating an alleged assault on Queensland's Sunshine Coast that left a 60-year-old woman with broken ribs and spinal fractures after an altercation with a dog owner. Kathy McKenzie was walking alone on Peregian Beach about 9:15am on Tuesday when she saw a man approaching with a dog off leash, despite dogs being banned on that part of the beach. Acting Sergeant Justin Zuanetti said Ms McKenzie confronted the man, telling him that dogs were not allowed on that beach.

Queenslanders can look forward to fine weather on Monday as the school holidays begin. The Bureau of Meteorology predicts warm and sunny conditions across the state after weeks of heavy rainfall. Senior forecaster Felim Hanniffy said no significant falls were forecast, except for a few showers in the Far North. "For parts of the central and south-east, we'll see dry conditions for the first part of this week," he said. "In fact, quite warm in the south-east tomorrow with a dry burst of westerlies.

Flood warnings remain in place for large parts of Queensland after widespread rain over the weekend with the weather bureau forecasting more falls to come. A severe thunderstorm warning is expected to be issued Monday for coastal and inland communities from Rockhampton north to Cairns. Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Jonathan How said the area saw scattered falls between 50 to 100 millimetres on Sunday, which may continue throughout Monday.

Rainfall records at some out properties have been smashed with major flooding set to continue across parts of western Queensland. Major flood warnings are in place for several rivers and some small towns are completely cut off by road. The rain band looks set to head towards the coast in time for the weekend. Heavy rainfall and flooding is expected to continue in outback Queensland today, with stranded locals left to find higher ground on rural properties.
