Former New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez was sentenced Wednesday to 11 years in prison for using his immense influence on the Senate foreign relations committee and in the Garden State in exchange for nearly half a million dollars in bribes. Menendez, 71, was found guilty by a jury in July after a nine-week trial of 16 counts of bribery, helping a foreign government and obstruction of justice.

George Norcross, who runs the most effective political machine in New Jersey and has enormous influence across the state, was indicted along with five others in June for running a criminal enterprise in Camden.

The New Jersey State Police will implement an array of reforms aimed at weeding out racism and sexism among the agency’s top ranks, following decades of federal investigations, complaints and discrimination lawsuits. Two separate investigations found internal complaints made by troopers of color and women were “weaponized” against them. Now, the state attorney general's office of public integrity and accountability will handle all complaints filed against State Police senior staff.
