CHESAPEAKE — One of the region’s most divisive races in this election cycle is between two Republicans vying to be Chesapeake’s fourth elected sheriff. At the heart of the division in the race is the city’s immigration enforcement and cooperation with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE. Sheriff Dave Rosado said the city is following all ICE best practices and has even expanded its partnership.

Truman and its strike group look forward to fast food and home-cooked meals, birthday celebrations and trips across the country now that they’re back on land. Cheers reverberated and happy tears flowed as thousands of family members and loved ones gathered Sunday to welcome home sailors from a deployment mostly spent near the Red Sea in active combat.

CHESAPEAKE — City leaders are pursuing grant funding from the state to build an overpass bridge for the Norfolk Portsmouth Beltline Railroad on Freeman Avenue in South Norfolk. At its meeting this week, the Chesapeake City Council passed a resolution to apply for funding through Virginia Department of Transportation’s Revenue Sharing Program for the project. The rail passing is nestled between Harris Street and Republic Road.

CHESAPEAKE — Historic Greenbrier Farms in Chesapeake announced Thursday that it’s immediately closing most of its operations to the public except for some seasonal events. “It is with sincere regret that we announce Greenbrier Farms will be closed to the public outside of our traditional Christmas, Strawberry, and Pumpkin seasons, effective immediately,” the farm said in a Facebook post on Thursday.

Enrollment is growing in a program that offers millions of dollars of toll relief to Hampton Roads drivers who traverse the Downtown and Midtown tunnels. But the amount of money being used is just a fraction of what state lawmakers secured in the commonwealth’s fiscal budget. Virginia’s 2024-26 biennium budget includes $101 million in toll relief at the Downtown and Midtown tunnels connecting Norfolk and Portsmouth, with a $77 million earmark in the first fiscal year and $24 million in the second.
