A holiday hotspot in Spain saw roads transformed into icy rivers after the region was hit by hailstorms and torrential rain. Video footage from this week shows cars in Santa Pola, on the Costa Blanca stuck in several feet of water and surrounded by massive sheets of broken ice floating on top. In one clip, shared by The Sun, a car drives through water that almost reaches the top of its tyres. In another, the water has drained away, but massive chunks of ice remain on the road and pavement.

Three British men have been arrested following the kidnap of a cryptocurrency broker in Spain. The broker was taken hostage two weeks after a chance meeting in Marbella, on the Costa-del-Sol. The man, who is also British, accepted a drinks invite to an apartment in the nearby resort of Estepona, where it is thought the alleged kidnappers had been living temporarily. Once there he was told to hand over 30,000 Euros (£25,000) in crypto currency from his customers' accounts or be tortured and killed.

A Cheshire criminal who fled from a Portuguese prison has been dramatically recaptured after five months on the run. Mark Roscaleer, 35, was detained after police stopped a Porsche on Spain’s Costa Blanca. He had vanished after scaling a 20ft wall with a ladder at Vale de Judeus prison, in Alcoentre near Lisbon, last September. That came five years after a previous foiled jail break when he smothered his body in oil to squeeze through bars.
