A high-profile lawyer asked to oversee the delivery of an $800,000 Victorian government project aimed at protecting diverse women in workplaces says she had to leave the project early, after it left her feeling "victimised" in her own job. Efforts to independently assess the taxpayer-funded project's success have also seemingly failed, with an evaluator finding it was not possible due to the project's "instability" and mismanagement.

ABC chair Kim Williams says he is expecting a review of the broadcaster's funding, if the Coalition wins the upcoming federal election. Mr Williams addressed the Melbourne Press Club a day after federal Opposition Leader Peter Dutton warned he would scrutinise the ABC's budget if elected, as part of a bid to cut "wasteful government spending". Mr Dutton said a government led by him would "reward excellence" and "cut waste" at the national broadcaster.

A year after Chaithanya 'Swetha' Madhagani's body was found in a wheelie bin, her friends are still waiting for answers, with one saying women in the community are scared that "men can take a woman's life" and evade justice. Ms Madhagani, who lived in Point Cook with her husband and son, was 35 when her body was found near Geelong beside a dirt road a year ago. Shortly after her death, her husband, Ashok Raj Varikuppala, flew to India.

Benjamin Klein can no longer enter his synagogue through the front door. He has to go down a back alley, unlock a door, and then unzip a plastic contamination shield. More than three months ago the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne was firebombed. The floors have since been cleared of debris, but the scorched walls, burned glass, and the deformed, gaping roof stand witness to what happened.
