A massive landslide has wiped out vital infrastructure connecting power to Paluma, with challenging weather further delaying efforts to restore electricity to residents in the area. As of Sunday, 2,700 customers across North Queensland remained without power, with Ergon crews facing difficulties due to overnight flooding and poor flying conditions reducing the number of workers on the ground. A damage assessment team managed to fly over some sections of the network supplying Paluma on Sunday.

Extra swiftwater rescue crews, police and boats are being sent north from southeast Queensland ahead of what the Premier has warned will be another severe weekend of devastation for an already-saturated and “hurting” region. Premier David Crisafulli said the Bureau of Meteorology has warned of more heavy rainfall that could lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding between Ayr and Tully Friday night and over the weekend. Six-hourly rainfall totals between 140 to 200mm are possible.

Premier David Crisafulli has promised flood-ravaged North Queenslanders authorities will not stop until power, water, phone, food and transport services are restored after a devastating 1 in 100 year flood. “I am here to deliver what this community needs,’’ the Premier said after arriving in Ingham.
