BLUFFDALE, Utah — James West has buried both his parents here at the state veterans cemetery. His father, Paul West, served in the U.S. Army. He was buried at the cemetery in 2020. “He was proud of his service,” James West said. “It was important to him to be buried here,” the son added. Spouses are allowed to be buried at the cemetery, too. Wednesday, Colleen West — Paul’s wife and James’ mother — was interred.

PAGE, Arizona — Buoys are supposed to keep boats in the channel with no risk of hitting bottom. On April 26, one buoy east of Antelope Point Marina on Lake Powell was out of the channel and in front of a sandbar. It had been that way since at least April 7. That’s when the Kane County, Utah, Sheriff, told FOX 13 he brought it to the attention of the National Park Service. It’s hasn’t been the first buoy in need of maintenance, said Bob Reed.

PAGE, AZ — Here where Lake Powell straddles the Utah and Arizona line, Kari Handley walks Wahweap Marina and sees things she doesn’t like. Handley squints in the bright sun. It reflects off the water and the red rock canyons that draw her family and so many others here. Then she points down to the docks where houseboats — some worth more than real houses — are tied. Screws are popped out of the dock’s decking, lifting planks and plywood sheets and creating trip hazards.

SALT LAKE CITY — A federal judge has denied a motion by one of Utah's Jan. 6 defendants to recover more than $62,000 that was seized from him after the 2021 Capitol riot. John Sullivan made that money by selling footage of the riot to news outlets. Even though President Donald Trump pardoned Sullivan and all the Jan. 6 defendants on his first day back in office, the judge said the law does not allow Sullivan to regain the money.
