LONDON — Police are investigating after a small fire broke out at Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s north London home in the early hours of Monday morning. The London Fire Brigade was called at 1:11 a.m. and quickly brought the fire under control. Nobody was hurt, though the front door was damaged, a cordon remains in place on the street and police are at the scene. A resident of the street said he heard a loud, one-off bang, that sounded like a “firebomb,” and possibly shattered glass.

BRUSSELS ― Emmanuel Macron is planning to host a group of European leaders on Thursday, March 27, to discuss Ukraine and security in Europe, three officials told POLITICO. The summit is a follow-up to the French president’s February and March gatherings of European and NATO leaders in Paris to discuss defense guarantees for Ukraine and the wider continent.

ROME — Italy’s contentious migrant detention centers in Albania are now ready and operational, the Italian ambassador to Tirana said Friday, after months of delays and logistical setbacks. Under the 2023 deal, Tirana agreed that Italy could send up to 36,000 male migrants who have been stopped in international waters each year to two asylum-processing centers in northern Albania.

EU foreign ministers have for the first time engaged in a “significant” discussion on sanctioning Israel if it doesn’t comply with international humanitarian law, Irish Foreign Minister Micheál Martin said Monday. “There was a very clear consensus about the need to uphold the international humanitarian legal institutions,” Martin told reporters following the Foreign Affairs Council.
