It isn’t rare for a team to have a disappointing year after its coach wins the Jack Adams Award, given annually to the league’s top coach. So maybe, in a vacuum, the Vancouver Canucks’ performance this year shouldn’t actually be surprising or disappointing at all. Look at the past five Jack Adams winners before Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet won last year.

There’s an argument to be made that, aside from the possible exception of St. Louis Blues captain Brayden Schenn, James Priestner is more famous than anyone he played hockey with. That’s hard to do when you spent four seasons stopping pucks in the Western Hockey League, one of the direct feeding pools for the NHL draft. Despite being a second-round bantam pick of the Kamloops Blazers and putting up solid numbers in the WHL, Priestner never made it to the big leagues.

There are no polls (that I’ve seen, anyway) that show insight into how the municipal byelection on April 5 will go. That’s probably because very few complete freaks (yours truly included) really care about the result. But there are a handful of us that do. Voter turnout in the last municipal byelection was just under 11 percent, which is obviously not great, but early signs have that number going up.

Ins Choi readily admits that the past few years have been a little rough. In 2021, Choi left the hit show he had created, Kim’s Convenience, before its sixth season was set to film. The comedy, which appeared on CBC and centred on a Korean-Canadian family that runs a convenience store, was then cancelled.
