I lead a small group at our church. It is a great group of people in different stages of life who desire a close community to do life with. We are currently diving into Ecclesiastes together. This has been such a great challenge for us as we think about what kind of life is really worth pursuing. C.T. Studd once wrote, “Only one life, ‘twill soon be past, only what’s done for Christ will last.” This statement, paired with studying Ecclesiastes, has caused me to rethink my priorities for 2025.

Life has a unique way of bringing moments of reflection. As we enter December, I can’t help but reflect on the incredible year the Lord has given the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention. When we begin a new year, we are usually looking forward. This is a good thing—we must always look to the possibilities that lie ahead. However, we also never know what to anticipate in the future. One of my favorite events of the year is our Southern Baptists of Texas Convention Annual Meeting. It is such a joy to be with pastors and leaders from across Texas. Every year, we have an incredible time of prayer, worship, preaching, and a little business. I love our annual meeting. This year’s meeting is being held at Sagemont Church in Houston on Nov. 11-12. Our theme is “Side by Side,” from Philippians 1:27. As you know, ministry can be challenging.

This time of year is my favorite. The weather begins cooling off and the leaves start changing colors. I also love this time of year because it’s football season. There is nothing like high school football on Friday nights and college football on Saturdays. However, of all the things we can highlight this time of year, one that often goes unmentioned is the time churches can set aside for pastor appreciation. Many churches designate October as Pastor Appreciation Month.

I love traveling. There is something about meeting new people and experiencing new cultures that I get excited about. Often, when I travel for work, there is not much time to get out and explore different cities. However, I was able to get away and visit a couple of new places this summer. One morning my wife and I decided to go visit a museum. This one was fascinating, as it held some of the oldest archives I have ever seen.
