With fewer than three hours to go until voting booths close on the east coast, Anthony Albanese has admitted he has not yet chomped down on a democracy sausage. The Prime Minister cast his vote this afternoon at Marrickville West Public School in his seat of Grayndler. Mr Albanese said he “would have loved to” hit up the sausage sizzle, but claimed the press blocked the way.

Known neo-Nazi Jacob Hersant has allegedly heckled an Indigenous elder’s Welcome to Country at an Anzac Day Dawn Service, with political leaders slamming the conduct. Melbourne’s Dawn Service was marred by booing from numerous attendees during Bunurong elder Uncle Mark Brown’s welcome ceremony. It was quickly drowned out by others who applauded the recognition of First Nations custodians.

The Prime Minister has responded angrily after reports Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to base “long range” aircraft in the Indonesian province of Papua – just 1380km from Australia. Respected US military website Janes has reported Moscow has lodged an official request with Indonesia to base several aircraft at the Manuhua Air Force Base, sending shockwaves through Canberra.

Housing Minister Clare O’Neil has slammed Nationals leader David Littleproud over “deeply offensive comments”, after he compared a female Labor MP to a “chihuahua”. Mr Littleproud has drawn controversy after telling the media on Monday that the Labor MP for Bendigo Lisa Chesters has “about as much pull as a chihuahua”. “I mean literally, what has she got for the people of Bendigo?” he said.
