Federal prosecutors have agreed to drop escape charges against one of the men accused of murdering Wake County deputy Ned Byrd. Alder Marin-Sotelo is in custody of the Mexican government awaiting extradition on other criminal charges. The U.S. Attorney’s Office said it would drop Marin-Sotelo’s escape charges so he can return to the U.S. more quickly. Last year, Marin-Sotelo escaped from a jail in Virginia. Authorities captured him in Mexico.

Raleigh.- Un puente en el condado de Wake podrá ser renombrado como el policía que fue asesinado en agosto de 2022 y culpan a dos hermanos mexicanos. Así lo dio a conocer la Oficina del Sheriff, al indicar que el 8 de julio la Junta de Comisionados del Gobierno del Condado de Wake aprobó la solicitud de nombrar la estructura en honor al agente Ned Byrd. Ahora, dicho requerimiento será enviado al Departamento de Transporte de Carolina del Norte (NCDOT).

Wake County commissioners on Monday approved naming a bridge after a Wake County deputy killed in the line of duty. The Wake County Sheriff’s Office had asked that the Auburn Knightdale Road bridge (State Road 2555) over the Neuse River be named in honor of Deputy Ned Byrd. Byrd was found dead around 1 a.m. on Aug. 12, 2022. According to his autopsy, Byd was shot four times, including three times in the back of the head, and authorities believe he was killed hours before he was found.

LOCKPORT, NY (WIVB) – A Niagara County deputy is accused of slashing someone’s tire and could be arrested by police. Rep. William Collins, who is up for re-election Tuesday, faces one count of criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor. It’s an incident that was captured on video and first reported by News 4. Roy Hamilton, who says it was his truck that was destroyed in the incident, called lawmaker Collins a “coward.” He is seeking compensation for damage to his truck and loss of earnings.
