Despite a couple of auction prices that have exceeded $6 million in the past two weeks, agents are cautioning that the spring uptick in top-end buying might be stymied by a lack of new properties coming onto the market. A re-built four-bedroom house on Devore Street, Saint Heliers, sold on September 25 for $6.05m – a whopping $1.3m over its on-the-market price and $1.2m over CV. In a heated half-hour battle, three bidders fought through 95 bids before the hammer came down.

A seaside cottage at the centre of a coastal walkway dispute has been removed from sale. The owners of Firth Cottage, at 9 Kitchener Road, in Auckland's Takapuna, had put the property on the market in March, after closing off the walkway to members of the public. They had been in legal fight with Auckland Council over the heritage status of the property. OneRoof reached out to the owner's legal representative for comment but had not heard back at the time of publication.

Three renovated houses and a “hazardous” villa in a gated Waikato community have sold under the hammer for under $1 million. The auction for the unusual “as is, where is” property, which had four houses on one title, turned into an intense bidding battle between two buyers on the look out for a bargain. The auction took off after EVES Hamilton auctioneer Grant Child announced that the property was on the market at $920,000, with the bidders trying to outdo each in increments of $1000.
