An apartment in Wellington’s sought-after Clyde Quay sold off-market for $5 million this month, breaking the region’s price record for 2024 by half a million dollars. Tommy’s agent Ramon Kane, who brokered the deal for the second-floor apartment, told OneRoof the sale price showed the top end of the city’s housing market had weathered the downturn better than other parts of the market.

A South Island teacher who bought the school she attended for $500 and saved it from being firewood is now selling it as part of her rural lifestyle property. Judy Grigor’s father was part of the board instrumental in getting the Gore Bay Primary School, Hurunui District, in North Canterbury, built in 1929 and she attended it as a young schoolgirl between 1943 and 1948. The school closed a year later when the roll dwindled to just five students.

Two Auckland property developers are trying to get ahead of slow sales in the crowded new townhouse market by offering novelty deals for buyers. One has set the auction reserve for a three-bedroom townhouse in Ranui at $1. The other is offering to cover one year of interest rate payments for the buyer of the four-bedroom townhouse at 43B Mirrabooka Avenue, in Botany Downs. Harcourts agent Inder Tak, who is bringing 20 Metcalfe Road to auction on September 13, said the sale would be an unusual one.
