The Centenary Celebration Golf Day was due to take place in September but wet weather meant the event to mark 100 years of county golf had to be shelved. However, host club Sandy Lodge and Hertfordshire Golf got together to make a new day, and it attracted 80 players from 39 clubs across the county. The Northwood club has always had a close association with Herts Golf, the men's union was formed at a meeting there, and the course played firm and fast after the dry weather.

A statement from general manager Tony Gauthier said: "Following careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to implement a slight increase in the season ticket prices for the upcoming season. The trio including Mike Tomkies and Matt Stuart-Reid were all playing in their first district competitions but played like veterans as they won 20-13 against Harpenden.

It was another busy week of bowls competitions. Picture: ANDREW MILLIGAN/PA (Image: Andrew Milligan/PA) The busy bowls seasons with clubs in plenty of different competitions Baldock's teams in the National Two Fours both had good wins in the second round. At Hertford, there was a 40-30 success while they also won at Royston 38-27. In the Stevenage Mixed League, they gained just one point against St Ippolyts, losing 51-41, but five in victory over Whitethorn.

It took a long time for Alan Campbell to shake off Tony Hale in the first race, but he prevailed and ran away with the second race to win in the fast fleet and overall. Behind them there was a close race between Mike Dilks and Charles Adams. They were close throughout with the lead changing hands several times. On the last lap it looked as though Adams had pulled away but as he came to the last mark to finish, the wind dropped and Adams found Elliot Dilks barring his way to the finish.
