LIBERTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A Randolph County veteran will soon have a new roof over his head because of some generous donations. 5 Star Roofing and Restoration and roofing manufacturer GAF teamed up to provide Vietnam veteran Ed Lohr with a new roof in Liberty. Lohr served from 1969 to 1970. “That’s a big expense,” Lohr said. “You know, I don’t know too many people that wouldn’t have to, you know, take out a loan or something to [get a new roof].

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — Many families around the region are facing food insecurity. A new app wants to make finding that food a bit easier for Guilford County residents. A trip to the grocery store, these days, can bring sticker shock and those prices mean many families are cutting back. In some cases, relying on local organizations to help get what they need, relying on food banks, food pantries, and church giveaways to put enough food on the table.

The art of barbering is in Kris Williams’s blood. “The photograph behind you is my dad cutting my hair for the first time in…1960, and he’s standing there with the two barbers that worked with him at the time,” Williams said, indicating to a photo of his father, Rodger.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (WGHP) — One of downtown Greensboro’s most popular restaurants and breweries, Natty Greene’s Brewing Company, is expanding. Natty Greene’s unveiled its plans Thursday for Natty’s Brewhouse Pavilion, a new single-story brewery that it plans to build not far from its current location on South Elm Street. It will feature an interior brewhouse space with open-air seating and bar areas covered by a roof.

DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A woman has been sentenced after forcing her 9-year-old step-son to live in a dog cage for months in Davidson County. Sarah Starr, 30, along with the boy’s father, Jonathan Starr, and Shelley Lucille Barnes, the homeowner and Sarah Starr’s aunt, was arrested after deputies found the 9-year-old barefoot, wearing only a T-shirt and jeans, in a cage outside of a home on Crest Road on a night when temperatures reached below freezing.
