Funny CarThe top two drivers in the NHRA Funny Car standings met in the semifinals Sunday at Sonoma Raceway. Heading into the week Austin Prock led with 1044 points, 256 points ahead of Bob Tasca III, who’s first round 338.77 was the top speed of the weekend in the division. Tasca III beat Prock off the line by .022, and after losing the lead heading into the midsection was able to outpace Prock’s Camaro and sneak across the line with a .03 second lead, securing his place in the final.

Top FuelDoug Kalitta continued to dominate Saturday afternoon in the third and fourth round of qualifying, but his track record-breaking run on Friday night of 3.649 ET at 336.40 mph gave him a smooth ride into pole position into Sunday’s finals. He will face 14 seed Ron August Jr. in the first round of eliminations. Funny CarBob Tasca III is on track to repeat his 2022 performance at Sonoma Raceway, claiming the top spot heading into Sunday with the fastest ET of 3.839 at 338.43 mph.

Concert goers were met with a soul-filled rock and roll afternoon as BottleRock 2024 kicked off with young talent. Grace Bowers, a Bay Area born and Nashville raised guitarist, blazed the opening BottleRock trail with non-stop electrifying guitar action at the JaM Cellars Stage. Her band, The Hodge Podge, also supplied plenty of crowd-pleasing solos and the singer moved the crowd with every vocal burst.

January 31, 2024 Santa Rosa Junior College District Police arrested a man who was in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia Wednesday afternoon at the Frank P. Doyle Library on the Santa Rosa campus. Ricardo Camacho Hernandez, 25, was arrested after creating a disturbance and swearing at SRJC library staff. “The library [staff] knew that he was not authorized to be on campus and they gave us a call,” said District Police Chief, Robert Brownlee.

One year after releasing his first ever feature-length film, “The Haunting of Hype House,” Sonoma County native Matt Farren wanted to challenge himself in a different medium: music. Farren didn’t simply write and record one song; he partnered with a producer and dropped a debut pop-rock album that tightropes sing-rapping. Farren, an actor, writer, director and now singer/songwriter keeps himself busy. For the first 18 years of his life, he lived in Santa Rosa.
