Cora Massaro, a 14-year-old who attends C.J. Hooker Middle School in Goshen, secured her spot in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. In addition to reading, Cora enjoys painting, drawing, gymnastics and ice skating. She's also part of her school's drama club. The preliminary round of the spelling bee begins May 27. The 97th Scripps National Spelling Bee begins May 27 with its preliminary round at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center.

Four Wappingers elementary students are multiplying up to 384-digit numbers in school. These students, who are in the district's math enrichment program, are getting creative with math theory to solve up to 384-by-384-digit multiplication problems. The Guinness World Record for largest mental arithmetic multiplication is 12 digits, achieved in 2021. Four Wappingers Central School District students have taken long multiplication to another level.

About 100 people gathered at Warring Elementary School on Thursday, May 22, to voice their opposition to Dutchess County's plan for the Oakley Street shelter. Cora Massaro, of C.J. Hooker Middle School in Goshen, will compete in the 97th Scripps National Spelling Bee. The Bee is May 27-29. The mid-Hudson Valley will be represented this year in the 97th Scripps National Spelling Bee at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland. Cora Massaro, a 14-year-old eighth grader from C.J. Hooker Middle School in Goshen, will be representing Orange-Ulster BOCES as speller 143. She's one of 12 competitors from New York this year.
