City officials are collaborating to bring fresh amenities to Riverside Park in north Fort Worth. During its April 15 meeting, the Tarrant Regional Water District board of directors approved a contract between the water district and the parks and recreation department to add a kayak dock and extend the existing trail at the park.

As the city of Fort Worth grows, its parks have to grow with it, said Dave Lewis, the city’s newly named parks and recreation department director. With a new master plan soon to be adopted, city staff have laid out the blueprint for enhancing the city’s parks system, with a focus on fostering accessibility and connections to green space throughout Fort Worth.

With two board members leaving the Tarrant Regional Water District, one incumbent and two new candidates have been elected to fill three open seats. Current board president Leah King, building inspector Johnathan Killebrew and real estate investor Skylar O’Neal earned the most votes to head up oversight of the agency, according to unofficial voting results released Saturday. King, who led the candidates with the most campaign donations raised, earned 30.9% of the 67,373 votes cast.
