    Three apartment fires reported within a 35-minute span on Thursday are under investigation in Greenwood. The Greenwood Fire Department responded to three different working structure fires at apartment complexes within the span of 35 minutes on Thursday morning. Multiple people were rescued by Greenwood firefighters and other responding agencies from across the region. No residents or firefighters were injured, said Jayme Washel, Greenwood fire chief.

    Johnson County’s largest city was among the fastest-growing communities in the state last year, U.S. Census Bureau estimates show. Greenwood was the fourth fastest-growing community in the state in 2024, being surpassed only by Indianapolis, Westfield and Fort Wayne. The city grew by 2.5% to 68,175, placing it among the fastest-growing Indiana communities from 2021 to 2022, according to recently released U.S. Census Bureau estimates compiled by STATS Indiana.

    The newest member of the Greenwood Community School Board is looking forward to serving her community in a new way. Lori Feller was unanimously appointed to the five-member school board by its other four members during a special meeting last Thursday. Feller will take over an at-large seat left vacant after the resignation of Mike Metzger and will serve out the remaining months of the term through December 2026.

    Plans for Greenwood’s new fire station are close to taking another step toward reality. The Greenwood City Council is considering the approval of the build-operate-transfer developer for the roughly $15.4 million Station 95, the planned station on the city’s southeast side near Graham and Worthsville Roads and Interstate 65. The resolution for the agreement was formally introduced to the council last week and will likely undergo final action in June.

    Business and community leaders discussed housing and child care issues during a policy summit Thursday in Greenwood. Aspire Johnson County, the county’s chamber of commerce and state-designated economic development organization, held its first-ever policy summit at Valle Vista Golf & Conference Center in Greenwood. For two hours, more than 40 attendees listened to panelists explore factors that play into housing and child care, and discuss them themselves.
