Following more than three years of construction, Douglas County officials on Wednesday introduced a new underpass shortcutting bikers and pedestrians under one of metro Denver’s busiest roads. The new $4.5 million underpass, connects the C-470 Trail and High Line Canal Trail beneath Santa Fe Drive, paving a long-desired shortcut for bikers and pedestrians. Recreationalists have lamented the dangers of having to once cross the busy road.

Douglas County will start work on the Hess Road bridge rehabilitation project in Parker Monday and significant delays are expected. For at least the next 90 days, Hess Road, an eight-mile stretch connecting I-25 at Castle Pines to and from South Parker Road, will experience, on average, 10-minute delays throughout most of summertime, according to Douglas County officials. Crews will upgrade portions of the current bridge and repair the pavement where the bridge meets the roadway, officials said.

A former Littleton funeral director who allegedly scammed dozens of Colorado families as they grieved loved ones pleaded guilty on Monday to a single felony count of abusing a corpse. Miles Harford, 34, appeared in Denver District court Monday to accept a plea deal specifying if he pleaded guilty to the one count, 10 others would be dropped. He also pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor court of theft.

Aurora police have arrested an 18-year-old in connection with a Saturday night roadway shooting that injured a man and left a 12-year-old girl with what police described as a "superficial graze wound". Three children were in the back seat of the vehicle when shots were fired. Christopher Campos-Anguiano, 18, was taken into custody and faces five counts of attempted second-degree murder, Aurora police said in a Sunday news release.
