    A Douglas County judge on Monday sentenced an Aurora man to 14 years in prison for a fatal hit-and-run in Parker from two years ago. Tory Conyers, 46, was convicted of multiple felony charges, including vehicular homicide, for a fatal crash that occurred while he was fleeing from police on Aug. 21, 2023, according to a news release from the 23rd Judicial District Attorney's Office.

    One person is dead and two people safely evacuated after a house caught fire in a rural area of Brighton on Sunday afternoon. The fire was first called in around 12:30 p.m. in the 12000 block of East 132nd Avenue, south of downtown Brighton, according to the Brighton Fire Rescue District. Ty Ono, a spokesperson with the Brighton Fire Rescue District, said crews arrived to a home fully engulfed in smoke. Ono said two of the three occupants evacuated from the home were uninjured.

    A three-year project to widen Santa Fe Drive in Highlands Ranch is near completion for one of the busiest roads serving between Denver and Douglas County. But area motorists must endure a couple more roadblocks before the U.S. 85 widening project fully finishes in the fall. This week, as construction workers pave the roads, Douglas County officials warn motorists face up to 20 minute delays between County Line Road and Highlands Ranch Parkway.

    The Colorado State Patrol has launched an investigation into who vandalized two cars owned by state legislators outside the Capitol building this week. In a news release Thursday, CSP officials said the vandalism took place on the east side of the Colorado State Capitol parking lot on Wednesday. In the parking lot, two vehicles about 30 yards away from each other sustained damage, according to the CSP. The vehicles are owned by Rep. Sean Camacho, a Democrat, and Sen.

    A former Cherry Creek High School teacher and running coach filed a federal lawsuit against the school district and former colleagues, alleging he was wrongfully terminated after reporting sexual harassment of his athletes and discriminated against for his military status. Craig Clark, currently an active duty military member, coached cross country and track since 2016 and then began teaching social studies in 2021, at Cherry Creek High School about 11 miles south of downtown Denver.
