A Jacksonville-area developer wants to demolish an iconic motel in Vilano Beach, but he hit a snag Monday night during a meeting with St. Johns County’s Cultural Resource Review Board. While the 74-year-old motel does not appear on the National Register of Historic Places, it has been acknowledged as culturally significant at the local level.

A split St. Johns County Commission agreed Tuesday to spend taxpayer money to cover legal fees spent countering an investigation into one of their own. After she was censured for encouraging the public to vote against her fellow county commissioners during a public meeting in 2023, the St. Johns County Commission (minus Commissioner Krista Joseph) agreed to investigate whether Joseph broke the law. The St. Johns County School District, searching for a new superintendent, has selected 10 semifinalists from a pool of 26 applicants. Speaking to the St. Johns County School Board on Thursday evening, Florida School Board Association CEO Andrea Messina said the group was “quite a pool of applicants.” Jacksonville Today thanks our sponsors. New owners are looking to get a piece of the city’s increasing popularity, but some restaurateurs are seeking to get out of the hustle and bustle of the downtown core and into quieter areas that are hotter with locals. The State Attorney’s Office has subpoenaed a variety of records from the St. Johns Airport Authority related to operations and top-level administrators, new documents reveal. The Airport Authority has been in hot water since the board’s legal counsel quit in February and alleged that elected board members Reba Ludlow and Len Tucker had repeatedly violated state laws surrounding private meetings. Ludlow has denied those allegations. Tucker has declined to comment.
