WESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — The Lewis County Commission laid the fiscal year 2026 levy, swore in two deputy sheriffs and read several proclamations during their Tuesday meeting. The fiscal year 2026 levy was laid at the amount of $1,255,406,514. Haley Rose Smith and Ian Riley Forinash were administered their oath of office for the Lewis County Sheriff's Department, where they will be serving as deputy sheriffs.

(WV News) — The Lewis County Board of Education spent its weekly meeting getting updates on the 2025-2026 academic calendar and recognizing the achievements of several students from Robert L. Bland Middle School. Child Nutrition Director Cynthia Nesselrode went over the upcoming academic calendar and explained the collaborative effort that goes into making the calendar. "Our calendar is joined by Barbour and Upshur counties because of the Fred Eberle Technical Center," she said.

Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital continues to provide health care services to their community in Lewis County. The hospital has seen a good year and hopes to continue that momentum, said Lisa Songer, chief administrative officer. "I think things are going great at Stonewall," she said.

WESTON, W.Va. (WV News) — Local farmers spent the end of their week showcasing their talents for cattle farming. The 35th West Virginia Beef Expo was held at Jackson's Mill starting Thursday, with multiple businesses displaying their cattle and discussing beef cattle farming operations. The show also included a program for livestock producers and handlers on effective stockmanship, stewardship and Beef Quality Assurance (BQA), which was held by the 2023 BQA Educator of the Year Dr. Tom Noffsinger.
