Portland Police have investigated more drug overdose deaths so far this year when compared to the same time period in 2023. "The real tragedy, though is not how much drugs we're seizing. The real tragedy is the number of people dying. We're seeing a dramatic increase in the number of overdose deaths we're investigating," said Sgt. Kevin Allen, Portland Police Public Information officer. As of March 7th this year, Portland Police went out on 71 overdose death investigations.

Law enforcement in Oregon is seeing more fentanyl flowing into the state, according to data from the Oregon- Idaho High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA). Chris Gibson is the director of the Oregon-Idaho High Intensity Trafficking Area. It's a federal designation, composed of 94 law enforcement agencies operating in 12 counties. It includes counties touching I-5. "We should never lose sight of the number of people we are losing to fentanyl itself and overdoses.

PORTLAND, Org. (KATU) — Back in October, we told you the DEA extended some telehealth rules that expanded access to medication that treats addiction. On Thursday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services confirmed those rules will be permanent. "In the Portland area, in the state of Oregon there's so many providers, like myself, who would like to remove the stigma and really break the stigma of addiction," said Dr. Rahul Gupta, the National Director for Drug Control Policy.
