High Desert Museum to host fundraiser Aug. 23Published 10:04 am Friday, June 20, 2025The High Desert Rendezvous, the High Desert Museum's long-running fundraiser, will return 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Aug. 23 for its 36th year. Last year, the event raised over $620,000 for the museum's exhibitions and programs. The High Desert Museum hosts more than 10,000 children per year during field trips and programs, cares for over 100 animals and features up to nine rotating exhibits per year.

Every Kid Sports funds La Pine youth sports this fallPublished 11:00 pm Tuesday, June 17, 2025Since the La Pine Park and Recreation District fell apart last October, the district hasn't been able to run its own youth programs. OSU-Cascades student overcomes brain injury to graduate with biology degreePublished 6:03 am Tuesday, June 17, 2025Maya Barnard-Davidson was fascinated from an early age by biology and the sciences. After suffering a traumatic brain injury due to a skiing accident in December 2014 on Mount Hood, and after years of hard work, she graduated with her bachelor's degree in biology Sunday. Barnard-Davidson was in a coma for nearly three weeks in early 2015 and had to relearn how to walk and speak.

Redmond fifth grader skates solo thanks to local engineering studentsPublished 11:00 pm Friday, June 13, 2025Skaters jumped ramps and flipped boards as they skated through Sage Elementary School's gymnasium Wednesday morning. Fifth grader Robert Parsons, who has cerebral palsy, joined in and skated solo thanks to an adaptive harness and electric skateboard designed by an Oregon State University-Cascades student engineering team.
