London police will receive $150,000 from the Ontario government to support victims of crime and improve the reporting of hate-motivated incidents, local MPP Rob Flack has announced. The funding, part of a broader provincial plan, will be also be used to establish a “dedicated hate-incident reporting platform,” according to a statement from Flack, MPP for Elgin–Middlesex–London. Flush with cash, London city council is set to debate whether to offer homeowners a break on sky-high property tax increases approved throughout this term or spend it supporting social and cultural programs. City hall has posted a nearly $60-million budget surplus this year and some politicians want to use roughly $17 million of the windfall to cut a full percentage off proposed tax increases expected in 2026 and 2027 – with the next election looming in 17 months.
