The public debate about artificial intelligence and academia, which has been going on pretty much nonstop since the release of ChatGPT in 2022, has so far largely focused on how students can and do use large language model chatbots to write their papers and otherwise cheat their way through school. Education experts have been sounding a constant alarm: Will students learn anything if they use AI? Will faculty be able to tell the real from the fake? Can anybody stop it?
