CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - On the alert for possibly more severe weather on this Memorial Day! Tracking a strong May cold front arriving from the west this afternoon. Ahead of the front, there will be a passing shower and thunder chance this morning. Followed by a break. A new round of showers, downpours and thunderstorms may develop this afternoon. The more sun we see, the greater the chances for a severe thunderstorm. Extra clouds will limit the risk.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A southern rain system will clip the region on this Sunday. It will be noticeably cooler with a lot of clouds. Most communities will not see rain today. The area most favored for a brief, ground dampening shower will be south and east of Charlottesville. Otherwise, today will be cloudy with a cooler northeast breeze. High temperatures will be more than ten degrees below average for this time in April. The sky will clear overnight and this will allow for colder air.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Our First Alert Weather Day designation has come to an end Monday night. Thunderstorms produced mainly hail in parts of the region late Monday afternoon and early evening. Most of the hail stones ranged in sizes from pea to quarter. A severe thunderstorm from about 4:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. produced the most hail reports from Greene, western Orange to Louisa Counites. No new severe weather overnight. Some patchy fog will form into early Tuesday.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - A soaking rainfall continues through Saturday morning. The National Weather Service continues a Flood Watch for areas mainly northeast of Charlottesville until 2 p.m. Saturday. Overall, it is a low-end risk for flooding. The steadiest and heaviest rain will fall Saturday morning. Beneficial rain will put an end to the wildfire threat. Rain moves away Saturday afternoon and evening from the southwest. As the rain exits, wind gusts will increase.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (WVIR) - Tracking a fast moving weather system arriving from the northwest on this Saturday. After a dry start to the day, expect the clouds to increase. Rain showers develop from the northwest from about midday into the early evening. Total rain will be variable across the region today. Some areas may get up to a half inch of rainfall. While other’s, just a ground dampening. The rain could end as a brief period of wet snow later this afternoon and early evening.
