The emergence of organized cosmic structures has been an important focus for cosmologists since the advent of large-scale surveys. The millions of observed galaxies reveal an intricate network of filaments and clusters that we call cosmic web (Peebles 1980). Observations of such clustering of galaxies can provide insights into fundamental physics and offer a way to test our understanding of gravity and of the components that make up our Universe (see e.g. Efstathiou et al. 2002; Cole et al.

Galaxies form and reside within a large-scale structure primarily composed of dark matter. This spatial clustering is shaped by gravitational forces acting on initially small perturbations present in the very early universe. As structure grows hierarchically through gravitational instability, the tidal fields associated with the evolving matter density are expected to induce subtle effects on the shapes, spins, and orientations of galaxies and dark matter haloes.

HDE 228766, a massive binary system with a period of 10.7426 d, is of special interest because it is very likely that it has undergone episodes of mass transfer and that its secondary component is now in transition towards the Wolf–Rayet (WR) phase. Hiltner (1951) classified the secondary star of this system as WN, attributed to this component the emission features present in the observed spectra, and surmised that the absorption profiles are due to a B or late O primary.

A significant fraction of the local galaxy population exhibits stellar bars. These are central non-axisymmetric structures made up of stars, gas, and dust following elongated orbits. Barred galaxies are one of the main families of both lenticular (S0) and spiral (S) galaxies. The fraction of barred galaxies depends on whether optical or near-infrared data are used, and whether weak bars are included in the sample.
