In the dentate gyrus of the adult hippocampus, neurogenesis from neural stem cells (NSCs) is regulated by Wnt signals from the local microenvironment. The Wnt/β-catenin pathway is active in NSCs, where it regulates proliferation and fate commitment, and subsequently its activity is strongly attenuated. The mechanisms controlling Wnt activity are poorly understood.

Understanding how evolution and phenotypic plasticity contribute to variation in heat tolerance is crucial to predict responses to warming. Here we analyze 272 thermal death time curves of 53 fish species acclimated to different temperatures and quantify their relative contributions. Analyses show that evolution and plasticity account, respectively, for 80.5 % and 12.4 % of the variation in elevation across curves, whereas their slope remained invariant.

The risk factors identified were scattered across various systematic reviews, none of which comprehensively covered all the risk factors or employed a definitive categorization. In this context, categorizing the risk factors as modifiable and nonmodifiable is based on established definitions in the literature, as highlighted in a narrative review by experts in ICUAW [3]. This categorization not only enhances the analysis but also amplifies the clinical utility of the findings.
